For those of you who check the art blog periodically, I apologize for not posting. Most of our art work has been kept to Instagram because of its ease of use. Below I have included some of the art we have been working on over the past few months! I will do my best to keep this updated more often! What a busy time first grade has had. After working on line and color and creating darling chameleons, we jumped into the Ancient World and created Cave Art. It was so much fun! We then created a "cave" in the hallway at school! Come and take a look!
Citrus Art and Mayan Masks. Fifth graders practiced tint, tone and shade as they created a piece of citrus fruit using tempera paint. After sketching their fruit they mixed paint to create the value of a real piece of fruit.
The Mayan Masks following the study of the Aztec, Mayan and Inca cultures. These masks were created through a directed draw and then colored in with oil pastel and baby oil. Can't wait to see them finished! This has been a busy week in the art room. From line and color to persepective to tint, tone and shade, the Elements of Art have been a focus for each grade level this week in class. Take a look at the beginning stages of our art!
Dot Day 2017 is Thursday, September 15 (ish)! Celebrated by students around the world, author and illustrator Peter Reynolds' book "The Dot" teaches all readers that just giving something a try by "make(ing) your mark" is the first step to becoming more accomplished at something. Our students certainly did just that as they created their own dots using various mediums. Some used tempera, others oil pastel, some watercolor and oil pastel and a few others used chalk. It was an excellent way to start off the school year.
For those who have never heard of the Pageant of the Masters, part of the Festival of the Arts, this is a must for you to look into- especially living in California. Every year, July through August, hundreds of volunteers come together to create LIVE art in Laguna Beach. As a young girl my grandparents took me to this amazing event and I in turn have brought my kiddos to see it. Masterpieces from around the world are recreated on stage with real people standing in the place of any person in the piece. Art ranges from paintings to statues and carvings to famous pieces of jewelry. For 90 seconds the subjects hold their pose and a narrator and live orchestra provide history and musical background to accompany the art. It is an amazing event! If we just lived closer this would be a field trip!! Please check out Pageant of the Masters to find out more.
A huge thank you goes out to Mrs. Godtland, who picked up "Where's Warhol?" over the summer and a generous parent who shared this Matisse activity book! Can't wait to share these!
The art program at Placer Academy is entirely sponsered by our PTO and the earnings from our Beautifully Made Art Show and Auction. This fall we have the opportunity to not only have an art teacher, but a dedicated art room as well! It is beyond exciting! Students will be able to enjoy art class once a week! We are thrilled to be bringing consistent art curriculum as well as the Core Knowledge art program to our students!
