Mrs. Grissom's kindergarteners read the short story "Art" and then discussed different types of lines and colors before creating their own with sharpies and water colors. Ms. Allan's kindergarten studied lines and primary colors through the artist Piet Mondrian. Using sharpie and acrylic paint, they were able to create their own Mondrains.
Calling All Placer Academy Artists:
As we prepare for this year's Beautifully Made Art Show and Auction, we are starting things off with a contest for our little artists. Students are able to recreate our inspiration piece, "Oranges and Limes", by Margaret Owen (below) using whatever medium they choose. Paper and instructions for the contest are located in the front office. All entries are due January 28th. Winners will be featured on our thank you cards, and will even get a set of their own!! Talk to your children and encourage them to participate. We are thrilled to welcome you to the beginnings of the Placer Academy art blog. For the time being we will be posting about all of our art programs, but hope in the future to have blogs to support each individual art program here at PA.
The Placer Academy art program is currently run by parent volunteers. They are the gracious ones who devote their time to bringing all arts into the classroom. Our art and music docents visit the classrooms from once a month to once a week. They provide knowledge on basic skills as well as introducing the students to the Core Knowledge art and music curriculum. We are truly lucky to have two teachers, and another parent help lead our performing arts program for one semester a year, allowing our small group of students to have the experience of performing onstage. As Placer Academy grows, so will our program! Enjoy watching your children explore and learn through the world of art! |
